Ophthalmic lenses
Whatever your problem, we have the type of lens you need. We can offer you a solution for all prescriptions, professions and ages.
Next, we present you the most common materials used in the manufacture of lenses: mineral, polycarbonate and organic.
Mineral lenses are very resistant to surface scratches and they support very high thickness reduction rates.
However, the risk of breakage in case of accident is very high and makes them dangerous for our visual health. Besides, their weight is noticeable.
Mineral lenses are perfect for very strong prescriptions.
Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses are the most resistant lenses available. They can withstand very strong impacts without breaking and they are very light. However, they do not support very high thickness reduction rates and their surface can be scratched easily.
Polycarbonate lenses are perfect for safety glasses and hazardous activities.
Organic lenses are the most common ones. They are highly resistant to impacts, very comfortable and light. They are the best option in most cases.
The main types of lenses are:
Varifocal lenses
Generally, from the age of 40, our eyes lose their ability to focus on near objects. This condition is called presbyopia and it affects people with and without glasses. It is the result of the loss of elasticity of the eye crystalline lens.
Traditionally, presbyopia was corrected with bifocal lenses. Nowadays however, thanks to many technological developments, the use of varifocal lenses is on the rise.
Varifocal lenses have three different optical zones: for far, intermediate and near vision. The three different prescriptions allow the eye to focus on objects at various distances, hence the name of varifocal.
Bifocal lenses
Bifocal lenses have two different optical zones: for far and near vision. Bifocal lenses can be classified depending on the reading segment type and dimensions. The most commonly used is the curved one, generally 19 mm by 28 mm.
Single vision lenses
Single vision lenses present the same prescription over the whole lens area. Thus, the eye is responsible of focusing on different distances.
Sport lenses
Adequate sport equipment includes not only footwear or clothing but also adequate sport lenses. Thanks to the wide visual zone, Sport lenses offer an optimum correction to safely enjoy any type of sport.
Sport lenses are available in different shades and in Suncontrast versions which offer a high visual contrast for adverse sites and climate conditions.
- Why do I need special lenses when practicing sport?
Geometrical sport frame design requires the use of special lenses. Sport lenses’ curvature angle distorts images and diminishes the visual quality.
Sport lenses take into account all these individual parameters before manufacture.
- What are the effects of SunContrast lenses?
Suncontrast lenses increase the contrast between light and shaded areas, allowing a better and more natural distinction of colors and details. Besides, they protect against UVA and UVB radiation.
