Carrera sunglasses: A story of luxury and adrenaline

Carrera eyewear is synonymous with character and style, with designs made for those who challenge life and live at their own pace.

Carrera designs are iconic in the world of eyewear, representing the feeling of passion, the desire to challenge fears and adrenaline that its creator Wilhelm Anger felt when he was inspired by one of the most important automobile races in Latin America: the Carrera Panamericana.

Discover the story behind a brand of eyewear that conquered a select group of athletes, motorcyclists, skiers, drivers and adrenaline lovers, as well as famous singers and renowned actors who dared to wear a distinctive look.

History of Carrera eyewear

Carrera glasses were designed by Wilhelm Anger in 1956. Wilhelm was a big fan and lover of motor racing. His passion and taste for adrenaline led him to be inspired by the most dangerous race in the world to create a new brand: the Carrera Panamericana.

This is the longest, fastest and most dangerous race in the world. It takes place in Mexico and is run by professional drivers and risk-loving amateurs. It is 3,200 km long and full of adrenaline all the way.

It was this Carrera Panamericana sensation that inspired Wilhelm Anger to create new designs of incredible and innovative eyewear, perfect for those who do extreme sports and challenge the limits of their own lives.

Wilhelm created a new brand that he named Carrera. It became an icon in the world of eyewear and, from then on, he produced new designs with this identity, glasses of different styles and functional for extreme sports or to look more than good.

By patenting Optyl, Carrera became one of the best in the world. In addition to improving its quality, it gradually became iconic thanks to the combination of quality and taste, with an innovative and always original style.

And in 1966 Carrera began producing sunglasses for major brands such as Christian Dior, Hugo Boss and Boeing. Its own universe expanded to include, in addition to glasses for extreme sports, prescription glasses and sunglasses that became popular among famous singers, actors and actresses such as Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Brad Pitt.
