YSL: Yves Saint Laurent: authentic eyewear
We've seen Yves Saint Laurent eyewear come and go since the founding of the fashion house in 1962. Nowadays, with all this 70's fashion revival, YSL eyewear is in fashion again. What better time to get some of the brand's eyewear?
But wait! Before you pick a model blindly, we want to recommend a few that are on trend. And what's more, we guarantee they'll be the best glasses you'll ever wear. Without further ado, let's get started!
A little history about YSL
The fashion house Yves Saint Laurent owes its name to one of its founders, who together with Pierre Bergé created the brand in 1962. However, their first collections were far from the hippie movement that was booming.
Instead, the line leaned more towards elegant aesthetics and straight lines. In fact, YSL is credited with the creation of the women's tuxedo and the implementation of ready-to-wear. In addition, it was the first fashion house to use models of color for its runway shows, a giant leap forward in racial inclusion.
However, if the average person wanted to buy Saint Laurent glasses, they would have had to wait until 1966. It was in that year that the brand's first store opened in Paris.
In 1987, Yves Saint Laurent ceased to be the official designer, a position that changed hands several times. In 1999, Gucci bought the franchise and asked Tom Ford to take over the design. In 2005, the job passed to Stefano Pilati, who remains in the post to this day.
Why are Saint Laurent eyewear so good?
YSL eyewear is one of the best options when choosing a face accessory. Why? Well, let's start by talking about their materials: usually, the glasses are made of premium injected acetate, which means they will last a lifetime.
On the other hand, there are the metallic models, whose frame is almost always made of titanium. This is an ultra-strong and lightweight metal, which will also last for years with little to no damage. In case you are worried about metal oxidation, forget it, Saint Laurent metallic glasses have anti-oxidation treatment.
Talking now about the designs, the YSL brand has always been very avant-garde and has known how to take the trends and exploit them in the best way. As we said before, we are living a resurgence of past fashions. This trait is evident in the big and flashy glasses, typical of the 60s and 70s, but with a more stylized aesthetic.
You will be surprised when you see the latest collections, which manage to adapt to countless styles and faces. They bring together the characteristics of today, with a clear retro inspiration.
The best Saint Laurent Eyewear of the moment
Saint Laurent is not afraid when it comes to designing eye-catching eyewear. Moreover, the brand is also not too modest when we talk about exposing luxury. Just for you, we have made a compilation of the best YSL eyewear of the moment. And if you're having trouble choosing, here's how to choose the best glasses according to your face.
SL M119 BLAZE
When we talk about YSL glasses, this particular model is a perfect exponent of quality and style. These are oversize glasses with a cat-eye shape, i.e. narrow near the bridge and wide at the beginning of the temples.
The width of the outer rim is maintained up to the temples, which are quite thick, so much so that they expose the brand's logo in gold letters. It is a clear sign that they are not made to go unnoticed.
As for their manufacturing materials, they consist of 20% bionylon and 80% recycled acetate. The result is a mixture that resists wear, falls and inclement weather.
On the other hand, we have the black lenses, which have full UVA/UVB protection. In other words, these Yves Saint Laurent glasses will be your best companion on any sunny day.
The SL M119 BLAZE can complement a wide variety of outfits and styles, so don't hesitate to check them out.
SL 570
Like the previous model, the frame of the SL 570 is cat-eye shaped. But there are several differences that make these glasses unique. First, the entire top edge of the frame is covered with a metal rod, which draws two subtle arches.
This gives it a touch of feminine elegance that can be combined in many ways to achieve a great visual impact. The lower part of the glasses is made entirely in black acetate. In addition, the style abandons curved lines and opts for angles and straight lines.
The combination results in a transgressive, yet sober design. The black lenses, with absolute UVA/UVB protection, are almost completely opaque. And let's not forget that the frame is compatible with corrective lenses.
These Italian-made glasses are available in two varieties. In both, the frame is black. The difference lies in the metal temple at the top. While one model features it in silver, the other goes a bit further and implements a striking gold.
SL 276 MICA
The Saint Laurent glasses model 276 MICA are one of the brand's most versatile designs. They are square, close to the shape of a cat's eye, which gives them a feminine touch. This feature stands out in the upper outer corners, with a closed but rounded angle.
The temples are relatively narrow and without details, beyond the brand name printed in a discreet way. The frame is made of nylon and acetate of excellent quality, and the lenses have UVA/UVB protection.
The favorite variation is completely black, including the lens, but it is possible to purchase four other variants. The first one keeps the black frame, but the lenses are clear to the point where they appear to be completely transparent, but they are not. This model is great for use on cloudy days or overcast environments.
There are also two more vintage models with gray lenses. One of them has a 53mm-gauge havanas frame, ideal for small faces, while the other is also 55mm-gauge havanas, for wider faces.
Finally, there is a model for the most daring people. It is a variation with black frame and iridescent lenses that gives these YSL sunglasses a fresh and chic look.
SL M106
Saint Laurent eyewear has opted for something more classic in this model. It consists of square Wellington type glasses, that is, similar to the traditional square Ray-Ban glasses. The main difference is that the upper rim overlaps the lower frame in the SL M106, right where it meets the temples.
In turn, the temples are thick at the beginning and become thinner as they approach their end. At the junction between the temples and the front, a metal monogram with the brand's initials can be seen, but nothing that draws too much attention.
In fact, this particular model, completely black with the silver monogram, is very useful to highlight the features of the face. Therefore, you can wear them without fear that they will detract from your natural beauty. And if you don't like the black finish with black lenses, there are two other variants that no one misses:
The first one keeps the black frame and the silver monogram, but lightens the crystals and adds a gradient to them (dark on top and light below). The other model, which is our favorite, has a havana-style frame, combining various shades of brown with a translucent acetate. In this variant, the monogram is in gold metal.
Finally, it should be noted that in all variants these Saint Laurent glasses are made using long-lasting nylon or super-strong acetate. Dare to try them.
SL 312 M
Now let's go with a more sober Saint Laurent glasses with respect to the models we have seen so far. This is the SL 312 M, with a large square design, whose frame is made almost entirely of metal with anti-rust treatment.
The glass, which is actually nylon, occupies the entire front and is screwed to the frame at four strategic points. The bridge has metal nose pads that can be adapted to the proportions of any face.
The temples are very discreet: just a metal tube with a paste finish that reduces irritation due to long use. In addition, we can find paste on the upper edge of the glasses.
As an addition, the manufacturer has decided to integrate a YSL monogram in the lower outer corner of one of the lenses. It is barely noticeable and is outside the range of vision, so it does not obstruct the view.
The SL 312 M is available in four variants. Three of them retain the silver metal, but the lenses change color between solid brown, gradient brown and gradient purple. The other model is completely black, including the lens, and is perhaps the best choice for when you don't want to look out of place at a formal event.
